Kyteler’s

Kyteler’s Inn, founded in 1263 by Dame Alice de Kyteler, holds a unique place in Kilkenny’s history. Alice, the daughter of a Hiberno- Norman investment banker, was a wealthy and powerful woman, having married four times to amass her fortune. Her success sparked local jealousy, leading to accusations of witchcraft. She was sentenced to be burned at the stake, but her noble connections allowed her to escape to England before the execution. Over the centuries, Kyteler’s Inn has endured various highs and lows, from thriving as a busy tavern to periods of dereliction. Recommended for medieval atmosphere.
