Meet your experienced local tour guide and begin the relaxing drive West across the beautiful midlands of Ireland to beautiful Galway Bay. We’ll reach Galway’s Atlantic coast after only 2 hours approx. We’ll have time for a restroom stop and a quick coffee before we continue on our way!
Our route is regarded by The National Geographic as one of Europe’s top ten coastal drives. Wind along the shores of Galway Bay into the unique “lunar” landscape of the Burren region. This is the only place on earth where Alpine, Arctic and Mediterranean wildlife flourish side by side.
We pass by Dunguire castle built in 1520. If you look out into the bay, there is a chance that you will see “Galway Hookers” at sail (traditional sailing boats influenced by ancient trade with Arabian nations).
We continue to a brief stop near “Black Head” where there are great views of the Aran Islands on clear days from the so- called “baby cliffs”. Enjoy a ramble around the surreal landscape here when the weather is fine. Instagram gold!
We arrive in the charming Atlantic fishing village of Doolin, where we enjoy one hour for lunch at leisure. You are welcome to bring a picnic if you wish, otherwise there are a selection of pubs and shops to choose from. O’Connor’s and FitzPatrick’s Pubs are usually popular choices.
The seafood chowder is really good, especially washed down with a creamy pint of Guinness and some soda bread! This village is famous as the spiritual home of traditional Irish music and is just up the road from Lisdoonvarna, known for the quirky annual match making festival.
Enjoy 1.5 hours (sometimes 2 hours depending on weather & traffic) free time at the majestic Cliffs of Moher for spectacular views and great photography. 9km long and rising to a height of 700ft, the Cliffs are 2/3rds as tall as New York’s Empire State Building. The Cliffs of Moher entrance fee, Visitor Centre and Cliffs Exhibition is included, saving you €8.00!
Afterwards discover the intriguing Bunratty Castle (1425), the most authentic medieval fortress in Ireland. Take in a short rest and relaxation stop in with time to get some refreshments and gather our thoughts on a most inspiring day out. We return to Dublin via Limerick, the mighty river Shannon and the lush green farmland of Tipperary.
Tour arrives back in Dublin’s fair city at approx. 20:00. Plenty of time to attend a traditional evening of dancing, songs and stories after an amazing day out and truly inspired by the beauty of Ireland.
