Choose from one of the central collection points and meet your fellow travellers for a half day trip to the Wicklow Mountains. Enjoy views of suburban Dublin as you pass by the areas where the Irish live and work. As the city gives way to the mountains you’ll see a glimpse of the iconic Sugarloaf and then drive up through Roundwood - Ireland’s highest village - before descending into the village of Glendalough.
Known as the "Valley of Two Lakes”, Glendalough is a glacial valley featuring a waterfall, two lakes and ancient monastery ruins which was famously raided by the Vikings. It is one of Ireland's most beautiful destinations. During your visit, explore this deep valley and its ancient Monastic City filled with Celtic crosses and round towers. You can also enjoy a leisurely stroll through the woods along the lake’s edge. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife including deer, rabbits, foxes and falcons. The local falcons are the fastest on earth, reaching speeds of 200mph - they nest in the steep granite rocks at the upper lake and can be seen flying at speed overhead. You will enjoy a minimum of 1.5 hours here guaranteed and potentially as much as 2 hours if the traffic and weather are on your side.
Glendalough and the surrounding Wicklow valley served as dramatic backdrops in major films and TV series. The valley's misty lakes, pine forests, and ancient monastic ruins doubled for Scandinavian settlements in Vikings.
