We kick off our trip at the Belfast cruise terminal, where our group will assemble, before driving along the stunning Antrim coast en route to the Giant’s Causeway. A collection of circa 40,000 interlocking basalt columns -which are the result of volcanic activity more than 60 million years ago -ancient legend has it that the Causeway was constructed for use as a bridge to Scotland by heroic Irish warrior Finn McCool. The Giant’s Causeway is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and promises to take your breath away. Please note that a local charge of 8 (pounds) applies to access the Causeway. Our group will then stop for lunch – either at the Giant’s Causeway itself, or as we pass through one of the charming local towns.
After lunch, we return to Belfast. En route, we’ll make time for photos at the beautiful and historic Dunluce Castle, which enjoys a scenic position atop sea cliffs of the Antrim coast. Back in Belfast, your tour guide will take you through some of the city’s key points, including the Titanic quarter, Belfast cathedral and Queen’s University. Time-permitting, you will have the opportunity to shop for souvenirs and enjoy some more in-depth sightseeing, before reuniting with your guide for transfer back to your port in good time for your cruise departure. Please note that your itinerary may be subject to slight alteration in keeping with your ship’s arrival and departure schedule.
Collection from Belfast Cruise Ship Terminal
We’ll meet you at your terminal at 7.30am (for later arrivals -30 minutes after your arrival time). You’ll board our luxury coach to begin this excursion with a drive through the enchanting Glens of Antrim. We keep our coach sizes small to ensure the maximum comfort of our guests.
Scenic drive along the Antrim Coast en route to the Giant’s Causeway
The Causeway coast stretches north of Belfast to the very tip of Northern Ireland. The stretch has been named by the UK government as an area of ‘outstanding natural beauty’ – where jagged cliffs, unspoiled sandy beaches and vistas of the Scottish coast can be photographed as we make our way towards the Giant’s Causeway.
The Giant’s Causeway
We ensure plenty of time at the Giant’s Causeway for you to fully enjoy this World Heritage site. You have the option of reaching the Causeway on foot (please note that this is a short 20 descent down a steep hill – ideal for those that enjoy walking). Guests preferring to reach the site by shuttle bus can do so for a small fee payable locally. Here you will learn about the formation of the causeway – the result of volcanic activity during the Paleogene period. However, ancient legend has it the famous Irish warrior Finn McCool chiseled these stunning hexagonal rocks himself – to allow him to challenge a Scottish giant. Nature or legend? we leave you to decide for yourself! A charge of 8 pounds allows you access the ‘Giant’s Causeway Visitor Centre’ – which houses restaurants, retail outlets, currency exchange facilities and a visual documentary about the Causeway.
Enchanting Dunluce Castle is one of Ireland’s most notable ancient ruins. We make a photo stop here – where the dramatic cliffs and beautiful Antrim coast promise an excellent backdrop for your pictures. Indeed, the proximity of the castle to the sea beneath is so close, that the kitchens of the castle one fell from the cliffs to the sea as the result of a storm during the 1600s!
A sightseeing tour of Belfast is the plan for the afternoon –as we take you past the city’s most famous features. Enjoy Belfast City Hall, Queen’s University, St. Anne’s Cathedral and of course the birthplace of the Titanic among others. Once our city tour is complete, we may have some free time for extra sightseeing and shopping of your choice. Please note: if your ship’s departure time is earlier than is standard – it may be necessary for us to alter the tour to account for this.
Return to cruise ship:
If your ship has a late departure time – we will leave you back to your cruise terminal once our full tour itinerary has been completed – this is normally seven hours after pick up. If your ship is departing earlier however – we will alter our tour and ensure that you are back at cruise terminal in good time for your departure!
