Recommended Private Itinerary

Enjoy the comfort of private departure from your Dublin accommodation before heading south towards Co. Tipperary. Your journey will take you through the Irish midlands and into the agricultural heartland of the Golden Vale – arguably the finest farmland on earth. Depending on the season you’ll see a wide range of animals grazing on patchwork fields including racehorses, herds of dairy and beef cattle along with flocks of sheep with tiny lambs.

Our initial stop today is the Rock of Dunamase, situated in Co. Laois. Once the most important Hiberno- Norman defensive structure in the county, the original fort was a Christian settlement dating back as far as the 9th century – the ruins provide interesting insight into Ireland’s Hiberno-Norman period and offers beautiful vistas of the Slieve Bloom Mountains. Be sure to have your camera at the ready!

Continuing on our tour, the next stop will be at Cahir Castle in Co. Tipperary. One of Ireland’s most sprawling castles, the structure was first established in 1142 and was passed down through some of Ireland’s most notable historic families, including the O’ Briens and the Butlers. The castle has now been named a national monument and is a must-visit for visitors to Tipperary. Following the castle visit, you’ll have time to enjoy a delicious local lunch in a good pub nearby.

Your next stop will be the famous Rock of Cashel. This imposing fortress on the rock was for centuries the traditional seat of the ancient Kings of Munster. King O’Brien donated the complex to the Roman Catholic Church for use as a cathedral in 1101. Part castle, part cathedral the Rock of Cashel is now recognised as one of the most remarkable collections of medieval architecture anywhere in Europe. Visited by Queen Elizabeth II on her historic State Visit of 2011 it’s a highlight of any itinerary in the region.

Refreshed after a day in the countryside you can look forward to your relaxing private drive back to Dublin city in good time to freshen- up ahead of any evening plans you may have. Drop- off at the Dublin address of your choice.
